Our In-Office Procedures

OptiLight Intense Pulse Light (IPL)

Intense Pulse Light (IPL) is a medical device that utilizes broad wavelengths of light pulses to reduce dry eye symptoms. It was first utilized in dermatology to decrease pigmentation, acne, unwanted hair and now has increasing clinical studies that indicate its role in the management of dry eye disease.   It targets inflammation by decreasing blood vessels on the eyelid margin (telangiectasia), reduces inflammation on the surface of the eye while heating the meibomian glands to promote better quality tears.   It also decreases bacteria and demodex mite load on the eyelid and eyelashes.

iLux

iLux is a handheld medical device indicated for the treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction.  During the procedure, a device gently heats and applies pressure on the eyelids to unblock meibomian glands.  This is a type of thermal pulsation that helps open up any meibomian glands (or oil glands)  in your eyelid to allow for better quality tears to then reduce symptoms of dryness.

Microblepharoexfoliation

At Mount Pleasant Optometry, based on what your doctor recommends,  we are excited to offer our patients three types of microblepharoexfoliation treatments.

Microblepharoexfoliation is an in-office treatment method that helps manage blepharitis and demodex, where a biofilm, like plaque, builds up on the base of your eyelid and eyelashes.  Daily lid hygiene is often not enough to remove all the unwanted debris from your eyelids.

Blephex and NuLids are safe in-office deep cleansing procedures performed at your eye doctor’s office that uses a device with a sterile oscillating tip that gently removes unwanted biofilm on your eyelids with a cleansing foam.

ZEST is a more gentle in-office deep cleansing procedure that uses Zokrex TM technology with activated natural okra polysaccharide complexes to gently and effectively treat and manage blepharitis.
