Originally from Toronto, Dr. Gafur attended the University of Toronto on a Canada’s Scholarship and a President’s Scholarship (top 1% of students). In 1993 he obtained a Bachelor of Science with a double major in Physics and Human Biology, and a double minor in Philosophy and Mathematics – and he graduated with honours. He then continued his studies at the University of Waterloo where he obtained a Doctor of Optometry degree in 1997.
Dr. Gafur began his Optometric practice at a surgery centre where he handled the pre-op and post-op care of patients having cataract and refractive surgery. Roger has worked for years in Vancouver and has seen patients of all ages and he has always enjoyed the challenges of helping patients solve their visual problems and meet their visual needs. Indeed, his greatest clinical strength is his devotion to his patients.
Dr. Gafur has also shown considerable commitment to the profession of Optometry by serving on council for the BC Association of Optometrists as well as the BC College of Optometrists where he served as the past Chair. He has the philosophy of “treating patients the way he would want his family members to be treated by their doctor.” In his free time Dr. Gafur enjoys spending time with his wonderful wife and new daughter and keeps healthy by playing tennis.
